Attacks
upon our homeland have created a need for emergency management professionals in
a variety of career fields . . . whether responding to terrorist attacks,
hurricanes or hazmat spills. Responders need to know how to establish
command, control the situation, coordinate communications, evacuate people, and
perform clean-up operations. SWTJC can help prepare you for this
rewarding opportunity. Students who complete this program will earn an
impressive portfolio of FEMA Certificates along with a Certificate and
Associate degree in Homeland Security/Emergency Management (HSEM). The
HSEM major provides a diverse set of courses designed to give students the
theoretical and practical knowledge necessary to help save lives and property
from the potentially devastating impact of disasters, both natural and
technological. The goal of this program is remain current with an
all-hazards approach to capabilities-based preparedness to mitigate, prepare,
respond and recover from terrorist attacks, major disasters, and other
emergencies. The HSEM program is designed to meet the needs of students
who wish to work or currently work in the field of emergency response.
